Back Bay X
In the end, the Back Bay land-making projects added 450 acres to Boston --
that's more than half the size of the original land mass of Boston! Much of the
Back Bay that exists today was heavily influenced by strict zoning regulations.
In this 1997 photograph of the Back Bay, you can see four rows of trees that
run through the residential areas; this is an example of the planning and
zoning regulations that make the Back Bay area so distinct.
