South Boston Harbor IV

By 1880 the city of Boston had undertaken many land-making projects --
including the South Bay.  The Boston shoreline had grown, the Back Bay had
been filled, Charlestown and East Boston had expanded, and a mile-long
stretch of land had been created along the Fort Point Channel in the South
Bay.  Look at the maps below of Boston in 1852 and 1880.  The South Boston
Flats project had created a lobster-shaped piece of land in South Boston.
