State House IV

Sixty Feet of the central peak of the hills, Beacon Hill, was dug out to
level the hill.  The fill was unloaded on the mud flats of the Charles River
and also filled in the Old Mill Pond for the Bulfinch Triangle project.

Charles Bulfinch designed a "new" State House at the turn of the 19th Century.
As Beacon Hill was leveled, the State House was built upon Beacon Hill.
By 1798, the first edition of the "new" State House was completed.
